FIGHTING THE BATTLE DRESSED IN ARMOR

Ephesians 6:10-20

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.[i]  EPHESIANS 6:10

THE OBJECTIVE

To Gain an Understanding of the Mission at hand

To know the enemy

To investigate the Uniform and Equipment

 THE MISSION

To stand firm in the strength of God

To share Jesus Christ with all the World

 THE ENEMY

 Ephesians 6:11-12

The DEVIL

The Rulers, The Authorities, The Cosmic Powers over Present Darkness, and spiritual forces of evil

  • 9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied. 10 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.”  Job 1:9-10
  • 8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.  1 Peter 5:8-9

THE UNIFORM

 Ephesians 6:13-17

The Armor of God

 Belt of Truth

John 17:16-19: 16They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17Sanctify them[a] in the truth; your word is truth. 18As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19And for their sake I consecrate myself,[b] that they also may be sanctified[c] in truth.

Breastplate of Righteousness

–2 Cor. 5:21: He made Him who knew no sin to be sin so that we might become the righteousness of God.

 Shoes (Gospel of Peace)

Col. 3:15: 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

 THE EQUIPMENT

 Shield of Faith

Eph. 2:8-9: 8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

  • 1 Thess. 5:8-11: 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 11Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Sword of the Spirit

Luke 4:4,8,12: 1And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. 3The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." 4And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone.'" 5And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." 8And Jesus answered him, "It is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" 9And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10for it is written, "'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,' and "'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" 12And Jesus answered him, "It is said, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 13And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

THE MISSING PIECE

  • THE HELMET OF SALVATION
    • JOHN 3:16: 16"For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
    • ROMANS 8:37-39: 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
